Florida Atlantic University’s College of Business will name its marketing department office to honor the legacy and impact of College of Business emeritus professor Eric Shaw, Ph.D.
“We are pleased and proud to name our marketing department offices the Dr. Eric Shaw Department of Marketing Office," said Daniel Gropper, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business. “Eric has made a lasting impact on our students and the FAU community through his dedication to excellence in everything he did from his teaching, his research, the guidance he offered his doctoral students, and his leadership as department chair and associate dean. FAU is a better place because Professor Shaw devoted his life and career to building this university.”
Shaw, an alumnus of FAU, has spent his life committed to fostering excellence in student achievement and supporting those in the FAU community. Shaw received his B.B.A. in 1972 and MBA in 1973 and joined the College of Business faculty as a marketing instructor shortly after. He later left to attend Temple University, where he earned his Ph.D. and then returned to FAU in 1982 where he held numerous positions at the university.
Over the span of more than three decades, Shaw served as the associate dean of the College of Business; acting director of the School of Industry Studies; and the chairman of the marketing department. He also was a past president of the faculty senate, as well as a former board member of the FAU Board of Trustees, the FAU Foundation Board of Directors, and the FAU Alumni Association. He retired from FAU in 2014, and also taught on the faculties of Rutgers University and the University of Miami during his career.
“A formula for success is to think of yourself as a self-improvement project, learn and work to excel at something and apply resourcefulness, resilience and perseverance,” Shaw said.
Shaw’s lifelong dedication to FAU is also represented in his role as benefactor. With a $2 million gift in 2021, Shaw became one of the largest staff or faculty donors in the university’s history. This donation helps several areas across FAU, providing scholarships and excellence awards to student-athletes, as well as to business, honor society, and music students.
Shaw also is an inductee of the FAU Alumni Hall of Fame; has received FAU’s Talon Award for Faculty Leadership; and is a recipient of the FAU President’s Leadership Award.
“Dr. Shaw's legacy is one that future generations of faculty, staff, and students will undoubtedly recognize and honor for his profound impact on the academic community,” said Hong Yuan, Ph.D., Harry T. Mangurian Professor and chair of the Department of Marketing.
“Characterized by unwavering dedication, palpable passion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Dr. Shaw's contributions have set a significant benchmark for those who will follow in his footsteps."
