🎓 Commencement News Stories Wanted - Deadline Nov. 8th
FAU’s Division of Public Affairs is seeking awe-inspiring, human-interest stories about noteworthy students who will be graduating this fall that would attract news media’ interest.
Possible story ideas may include:
Students, particularly doctoral or honor students, who have completed groundbreaking or unusual research projects;
Students who have overcome one-of-a-kind obstacles to complete their education;
Students who started a business while earning a degree and found great success;
Students who have been hired to a unique profession prior to graduating;
Students with compelling stories that are unlike any other.For more information and to submit your nomination, email Lisa Metcalf at lmetcalf@fau.edu. Nominations should be submitted no later than Tuesday, Nov. 8, and MUST include the student's name, a summary of the student’s personal story, degree being awarded, and a contact phone number and email. Nominations that do not contain this information will not be considered. Please make sure that students nominated are willing to participate in potential interviews by the news media prior to submission for nomination. These stories will only be used for potential local and/or national news stories if chosen. Students must have the ability to use a telecommunications application such as Zoom for their interviews and/or agree to being interviewed on-camera.

Congratulations to the Warren Lloyd Holtzman Seed Grant winners: Professor Eileen Acello, and Dr. Melanie Lorenz from the Marketing Department. Professor Acello won for Excellence in Teaching, and Dr. Melanie Lorenz for Excellence in Research!
Congratulation to the FAU College of Business Adams Center for Entrepreneurship. They were recently honored as the Exceptional Research Award winner at the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers conference in Las Vegas. Kevin Cox, Ph.D., associate director of the Adams Center and senior instructor, and Jennifer Granger, Adams Center coordinator, accepted the award at the conference on behalf of FAU entrepreneurship research faculty, the Adams Center, and the College of Business. The award represents the efforts of the entire COB, in particular prolific scholars who are publishing entrepreneurship research in top journals. These professors are located across the college in the management programs, finance, and economics departments.
During October 16th-21st, FAU proudly hosted seven Italian business faculty from the Istituto Superiore Carlo Dell’Acqua of Milan, Italy through the EU’s Erasmus+ Job Mobility Initiative. Dr. Joseph Compomizzi, D.Sc., and Senior Instructor in FAU’s Business Communications Program, was faculty lead in organizing a week of job shadowing, class observations, skill building, knowledge acquisition, technology training, and tours showcasing FAU’s talent, leadership, and achievements as a forerunner in business education. Erasmus has 126,900 partner organizations, and FAU is the first U.S. university to partner in this plan for global professional learning. The initiative produced much success as reported by the Istituto administrator and project managers with longer term partnership in the planning phase.
Douglas Cumming, Chair, Finance Department, had his paper titled, "Management Scholarship and the Russia–Ukraine War," published in the British Journal of Management
Douglas Cumming was recently welcomed by the British Academy of Management to the College of Fellows. Fellows of the British Academy of Management are scholars who have made an outstanding academic contribution to business and management scholarship, as well as demonstrating a significant contribution to the community of scholars in the field and within BAM.
Congratulation Angela Gaze, Professor, School of Accounting, and the Eta Tau chapter on their outstanding efforts during the 2021 – 2022 academic year. The chapter has received international recognition as a Superior Chapter, an award graciously sponsored by KPMG and the KPMG Foundation. Recognition as a Superior Chapter is a significant accomplishment, and under Angela's leadership, the Eta Tau Chapter has far exceeded the baseline requirements of Beta Alpha Psi and has excelled in the areas of academics, professionalism, and leadership. As faculty advisor for the chapter, Angela has provided an invaluable service to our academic institution.
Michael Harari, Associate Professor, Yannick Thams, Associate Professor, both from Management Programs, along with co-author Kate McCombs, a recent graduate of the Ph.D. program, have had their paper titled, “Perceived employability and employee strain: A meta-analysis,” accepted for publication in the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology. Roland Kidwell, Chair, Management Programs and Director of the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship, with co-authors, have had their article, "Let's Get Professional: Family Firms Need HRM Practices," published in FamilyBusiness.org.
Robert Pinsker, Professor, School of Accounting, along with co-authors, former Ph.D. students Dr. Tracie Frost and Dr. Zhijian He, and current Ph.D. student, Jiwon Nam, have had their paper titled, "The Impact of CEO IT Ability on Bank Loan terms," accepted for publication in the Journal of Information Systems.
Charles Yang, Associate Professor, Finance Department, with co-authors, have had their article, “Are Health Insurers in Multiple Lines of Business Less Profitable? An Examination of Scope Economies in Health Insurance," accepted for publication in Journal of Risk and Insurance (premier RMI journal, ABS3, ABDC A).

Joe Compomizzi, Instructor, Business Communications Program, attended the International Association of Computer Information Systems Conference held October 5-8 and presented a paper, “Digital Mandalas: Communication and Authentic Human Interaction in Reddit’s r/place Platform.”
Douglas Cumming was the distinguished guest speaker at the University of Huddersfield's Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics research seminar at the Huddersfield Business School Conference.
Douglas Cumming presented his working paper with co-authors titled, "Does Corporate Culture Influence IPO Pricing?," at both the annual meeting of the Entrepreneurial Finance Association (ENTFIN) and the annual meeting of the Verein fĂĽr Socialpolitik (German Economic Association).
