• Step 1: Decorate your individual workstation with the most holiday spirit
• Step 2: Submit 1 photo of your workstation décor to Lacey Kramer by Thursday, December 1^st
• Step 3: The ‘Holiday Spirit Committee’ (comprised of College of Business leadership) will vote for the top 3 submissions
• Step 4: YOU vote for the ultimate winner LIVE at the Dean’s Annual College of Business Holiday Party on December 13^th!

Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Advisory Board

We are pleased to invite participation for our Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Advisory Board. For over ten years, Florida Atlantic’s commitment to student success has resulted in exponential growth within our academic support services through the CTL. Through the Math Learning Center, Science Learning Center, University Center for Excellence in Writing, Center for Learning and Student Success and the new Speaking Center, the CTL supports nearly 100,000 visits for tutoring and other academic support annually.  

As we continue to develop, evaluate, and improve the CTL, we invite key members of the university community to serve on the CTL Advisory Board to ensure that the highest standards of integrity are maintained while providing the highest level of support for our students. Your service in this capacity is invaluable. 

If you are interested in serving, please submit a one-page statement of interest to Dr. Jennifer Bebergal, associate dean for Academic Support and Student Learning within Undergraduate Studies, who will chair this Advisory Board. For full consideration, submit your statements by Friday, December 16. In your statement, please include how you see your role influencing the direction of the CTL.

Our Mission

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Florida Atlantic University is dedicated to ensuring the academic success of every student and to providing faculty the necessary tools and resources to excel in teaching. Our goal is the creation of a culture of engagement, where students become fully engaged in the learning process, both with their instructors and with their peers; and where faculty from diverse disciplines can engage one another in the pedagogy of teaching, with the ultimate goal of enhancing student learning.

Our Vision

Our vision is to leave a positive impact on every individual who utilizes the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). We encourage students to become confident, capable, self-sufficient learners and faculty to become the best facilitators of learning. We empower faculty and students while providing academic support and faculty development in a safe and encouraging environment.

Our Values

In the CTL, we value lifelong learning, growth, and development; student and faculty support/success; diversity, equity, and inclusion; accessibility; promotion of innovative teaching; collaboration; and interconnected relationships. 

Advisory Board Charge
The Advisory Board is comprised of invited faculty from each college (no more than 2 per college), and other members of the university community, including Student Accessibility Services, academic advising, the Center for Online and Continuing Education, Student Athlete Success Center, the Library, and Student Affairs (no more than 1 per department) to help provide direction for the future of the Florida Atlantic Center for Teaching and Learning.

The Board is chaired by the Learning Center director. Faculty and staff representatives are invited to serve for two-year terms and can be reappointed. In addition, students will be invited to serve one-year terms. Approval for participation by the department chair or supervisor is required.

Role of Board Members

1. To assist CTL faculty and staff with strategic planning to maximize learning center impact 
2. To serve as advocates and liaisons for the CTL to the broader student, faculty, staff, and administrative population 
3. To provide a venue for departments to address how the CTL can best meet student needs 
4. To ensure that collaboration opportunities are maximized
5. To assist with assessment planning and execution

Meetings

The Board will meet one or two times per semester. Sub-groups of the Advisory Board may be formed to focus on specific areas. The first meeting will be held in Spring 2023.

Research Kudos & Recognitions

Dean Daniel Gropper was recognized by Florida State University's College of Social Sciences and Public Policy as a 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award winner along with Cecelia Bonifay, Jimmy Patronis and Nigel Parkinson Sr.

Mingxiang Li, Associate Professor, Department of Management Programs, with co-authors, have had their article titled, "How Women CEOs' Financial Knowledge and Firm Homophily Affect Venture Performance," accepted for publication in the Journal of Business Research (ABS 3).

William Luther, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, was a recent guest speaker at Kenyon College, where he discussed cryptocurrency and financial privacy. 

Joseph Patton, Instructor in the Department of Management Programs, along with co-authors, had the teaching case, “Boston Telecare: Disruption and Strategy in the Home Healthcare Industry,” accepted for publication in the IMA Educational Case Journal.

Robert Pinsker, Professor, School of Accounting, has been appointed as an Editorial Board Member of the British Accounting Review (AJG 3 / an ABDC A* journal) due to his expertise in AIS, cybersecurity and IT governance.

Charles Yang, Associate Professor, Department of Finance, has been appointed as an Associate Editor of the North American Actuarial Journal (NAAJ), a premier RMI journal and the official journal of the Society of Actuaries (the world’s largest actuarial professional organization).
